Before you consult, it helps to know who decides. Here are the competent authorities for the whole canton and the districts they serve, each with its official website.
Tenancy
A dispute over rent, a defect, the deposit or a notice to quit normally starts in Graubünden before the tenancy conciliation authority (Schlichtungsbehörde für Mietsachen). It tries to bring the parties to an agreement. If that fails, the case can go to the regional court of the region where the flat is. Time limits for challenging a notice or a rent are short, so a tenancy lawyer helps with the application.

Work
Graubünden has no separate employment tribunal: dismissal, unpaid wages, overtime or a work certificate are heard by the regional court (Regionalgericht), as a rule the one where the defendant lives or where the work is usually done. Each region has its own, from the Regionalgericht Plessur to the Regionalgericht Maloja. With seasonal jobs in particular, it pays to have the contract and deadlines checked early.

Family
Protective measures, separation, divorce, custody and maintenance are decided at first instance by the regional court of your region. Often an agreement can be reached that the court then only has to approve. In a canton of long distances, many practitioners offer a first meeting by video; each profile on ora. shows the formats and languages on offer.

Criminal
A complaint, a summons to an interview or a penalty order: the investigation is led by the public prosecutor’s office (Staatsanwaltschaft Graubünden). If it brings charges, the regional court decides at first instance. The time limit for objecting to a penalty order is very short; after that the order becomes final. Seek advice without delay: a criminal lawyer can be at your side from the first interview.

Legal aid
If you cannot afford proceedings and your case is not without prospects, you can apply for legal aid. The application goes to the competent court, which at first instance is usually the regional court. Legal aid can exempt you from advances and court costs and allow a lawyer to be appointed for you. A practitioner can tell you whether your situation qualifies.

Pricing on ora.
Each practitioner sets their own fees and shows them on their profile before you book. You pay ora., which collects on the practitioner’s behalf; ora. charges its service fee on a separate line.

We keep the name of the register and the date of every check.
Local answers, checked against official sources. A practitioner can look at your situation in detail.
See all questionsOn ora., every lawyer is checked against a cantonal bar register, and every legal adviser holds a Swiss law degree. You filter by area of law, language and place – from Chur to Landquart or Davos – and compare profiles and fees. You book at the office or by video, which often saves a long journey.
Each region has its own regional court, such as the Regionalgericht Plessur for Chur, the Regionalgericht Landquart, the Regionalgericht Prättigau/Davos or the Regionalgericht Viamala. It hears civil, family and criminal cases as well as employment disputes. Which one is competent in a given case depends on where the parties live and on the type of matter.
Graubünden is trilingual: German, Romansh and Italian are official languages. On ora. every practitioner lists the languages they speak, and you can filter by them. That way you can be advised in your own language, even if the proceedings themselves are held in another official language.
Depending on the decision, an appeal to an administrative body may be open first. At cantonal level, appeals are decided by the high court (Obergericht des Kantons Graubünden). The deadline and the remedy are stated at the end of the decision; a practitioner checks the right route.
Each practitioner sets their own fees, and the rates of the lawyers available are shown live on this page and on every profile before you book. ora.’s service fee appears on a separate line and is never added into the fee, and you pay the practitioner directly. If your means are insufficient, you can apply to the competent court for legal aid.
